President Trump and the Democratic leadership in Congress are competing to push for increasingly protectionist trade policies. Professor Alan Deardorff’s talk will look at the arguments and evidence for and against such policies and address whether an alternative approach would be more beneficial for the American and world economies.

Deardorff is the John W. Sweetland Professor of International Economics and a Professor of Economics and Public Policy at the University of Michigan, and an expert on trade policy.

The talk will take place during the Washtenaw County Democratic Party’s General Membership Meeting, which is from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6 at the Washtenaw County Learning Resource Center, 4135 Washtenaw Ave.
