As data centers rapidly expand across the country, states are facing urgent questions about energy demand, water use, utility costs, land use, and climate impact. Michigan is no exception. While data centers can bring investment and construction jobs, they also risk shifting costs onto residents and small businesses if states fail to put strong protections in place.

Join the Washtenaw County Democrats for a focused conversation on what smart data center regulation should actually look like in Michigan.

This webinar will center on a proposed framework for Michigan data center regulation, drawing from policies adopted or debated in states across the country, and explore the key questions behind regulating data centers in Michigan:

  • What are key concerns with data centers?

  • What protections already exist, and where are the gaps?

  • What rules best protect ratepayers, local communities, water resources, and climate goals?

This discussion is designed to equip attendees with a clearer understanding of the specific policy choices Michigan lawmakers and communities are facing.

Speakers include Ben Poulson, Director of State Government Affairs, MLCV; Peter Sinclair, Climate activist and videographer; and Amanda Robert, Network Director, Michigan Climate Action Network
