The Washtenaw County Democrats and Ann Arbor Democratic Party hosted a forum for candidates for the Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor school boards on Saturday, August 6, from 9:30 am to noon via Zoom. Both boards have seven board positions; four of the Ann Arbor board positions and three Ypsilanti board positions will be determined in the November 8 general election.
School board members have a say in virtually every aspect of school district functioning. They choose superintendents. They set budgets. They decide whether new schools need to be built and old schools updated. They make or influence policy on everything from book banning to student privacy to school closures for health reasons.
The following candidates have indicated, as of July 31, that they will participate in the forum:
Ypsilanti School Board Trustee candidates panel:
Meredith Schindler, M. Jeanice Townsend
Moderator: Maria Sheler-Edwards
