Millennial Town Hall

Mayor of Ypsilanti to host Town Hall on August 6th 2020 at 7pm to Center the Concerns of Ypsilanti Residents Age 21-39 Years Old
Join Ypsilanti Mayor Lois Allen-Richardson’s first Millennial Town Hall to share your experiences, goals, and visions around important issues in the city that impact life in Ypsilanti. This will be a facilitated dialogue between Millennial residents of Ypsilanti to produce shared generational wisdom toward the goal of guiding the city’s future. The Millennial Town Hall is open to the public. This event will happen online via zoom and will be recorded into public record.

Areas of dialogue at the town hall:
Racial Justice
e.g. BLM, systemic racism, political power
Healing, Restoration, and Transformation
e.g. Water Street, reparations, environmental remediation, city budgeting, addressing harm and accountability
Community Participation and Trust
e.g. local government, grassroots activism, electoralism
Punishment and the Carceral System
e.g. policing, local police budget, school-to-prison pipeline, crimes of poverty: homelessness, substance use, ticketing, paraphernalia
Community Assets to Grow
e.g. public accessibility, affordable housing, health/mental health support, environmental sustainability (green energy), public transit, food sovereignty, good jobs, worker-owned co-ops, community-based solutions, music/art/creative community
Local Physical and Social Infrastructure
e.g. pandemic response, grocery store, childcare, after-school programs, adult education and training, parks, internet, recreation, community spaces, cultural facilities
