*****PLEASE CALL ABOUT THIS ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS URGENT!!!*****

Our current laws provide us with no method for holding polluters accountable for the damage that they do to our state. Instead of having to clean up their messes, they can even limit their efforts to restricting access to the areas that they contaminate. From the Enbridge Kalamazoo River Disaster to green ooze coming out of our highways, we have already seen how much damage these businesses can and will do to our home in the name of profit.

Our legislators, House Democratic Floor Leader Yousef Rabhi (D-Ann Arbor) and State Senator Jeff Irwin (D-Ann Arbor) have said enough is enough and have introduced identical bills in the House and Senate to require polluters to clean up the contamination that they cause. Michigan is home to about 20% of the planet’s freshwater supply as well as a host of other natural resources and it is our duty to be responsible stewards of those resources; people around the world are counting on us.

Script for Calling Republicans in the Michigan Legislature:

Hi, I’m calling to urge Senator/Representative _______ to support Senate Bill 0116/House Bill 4212. It is outrageous that polluters can do damage to our home without any accountability. From the Enbridge Kalamazoo River Disaster to green ooze coming out of our highways, we have already seen how much damage these businesses can and will do to our home in the name of profit. We need to be responsible stewards of Michigan’s natural resources for our own health as well as for our children. Please stand up for Michiganders everywhere; vote yes on Senate Bill 0116/House Bill 4212.
