With all the economic, social and healthcare crises affecting our state right now, what do our GOP state legislators feel is urgent business? Making sure that Michigan REFUSES the federal aid that our state government will desperately need to function.

Yes, you read that right.

A GOP sponsored resolution introduced in the Michigan House on May 27th would deny the state federal bailouts and financial relief during Michigan’s worst economic downturn since the Great Recession thanks to the COVID-19 crisis.

House Resolution 267, introduced by state Rep. Michele Hoitenga (R-Manton), says that “it should not be incumbent on the federal government and American taxpayers to bail out states for their fiscal irresponsibility.”

Why would the GOP want this? Because they want the Governor to slash the budget to bare bones NOW. If they wait until federal funding comes, the budget won’t need to be cut as severely. So in essence, the GOP would prefer our state fall into financial ruin so that they can grandstand for their pet budget cuts in education, healthcare, social services, etc..

Please call these Reps. who sponsored this resolution and tell them that it is unconscionable to intentionally hurt our state. This resolution is nothing more than a transparent power play against Governor Whitmer.
