Taking advantage of federal support dollars, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has brought about record investments to block invasive carp from accessing the Great Lakes. Invasive carp pose a significant threat to ecosystems and recreational opportunities. State agencies in Michigan are monitoring the waterways and have developed action plans to follow if carp are detected. The plans include crowdsourcing apps, scientific testing, and pro-active management.

“As every Michigander knows, the Great Lakes are an environmental treasure and a key part of Michigan’s economy. Thanks to Governor Whitmer’s hard work defending against invasive carp, people across the state will be able to enjoy the Lakes for generations to come,” said Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel. We join Chair Hertel in celebrating the Governor’s work to protect our natural treasures.
