Washtenaw Alliance Meeting 2026+ – May
Sunday May 17, now 5:30 – 7:30pm (with pizza)
Location Upon Registration
Note: Time change is due to a conflict with a memorial for Joan Sampieri, longtime president of the League of Women Voters, Treasurer of the Western Washtenaw Dems, and all-round exemplar of public service, our gathering has shifted to 5:30-7:30 pm (with pizza!) This will be the last Sunday Alliance meeting until September.
Protecting our elections:
- What are the roles that each of us can play?
- Who is organizing to keep the polls secure, and how to connect?
Rena Basch, Director of Elections for Washtenaw County, will take us through the many safeguards we have for the voting process and the crucial ways you can participate. We’ll talk about external threats we may be facing, and learn what safety plans are being set up, and hear from people who have filled a wide variety of roles. We’ll also have a short tutorial on “best practices” for using Signal the secure messaging app.

LESS THAN 10 DAYS LEFT TO MOP UP MICHIGAN! Sign or volunteer today!
This initiative is on track to hit the goal and turn in the required 356,958 valid signatures, but if we fall short by just 1 signature, our collective effort to get money out of politics will be off the table until 2028. Make it a priority to help.
Here are three ways:
-
Become a signature gatherer! It’s fun and easy – a handful of signatures matters! Find an upcoming event for signature gatherers here: https://www.mobilize.us/mmop/
-
Volunteer now for any role here: https://mopupmichigan.org/
action/volunteer/. Anyone who signs up will immediately receive all the information they need to get started, but just in case, an MMOP team member will reach out to them within 24 hours. -
Tell everyone you know that they can get a petition by mail to sign here: https://mopupmichigan.org/

NOW is the time to turn out to restore our collective voices in politics by getting dark money out!
Tell Our Congresswoman and Senators: No More Money for This Illegal War!

It’s vital for us to contact Senators Peters and Slotkin, and Congresswoman Dingell, to stress that we oppose any more funding for the illegal war in Iran.
Take action!
You can always find their contact information at mivoter.org. But for your convenience, here are their office numbers:
- Congresswoman Debbie Dingell: (734) 481-1100; D.C. (202) 225-4071
- Senator Gary Peters: Michigan (313) 226-6020; D.C. (202) 224-6221
- Senator Elisa Slotkin: Michigan (313) 961-4330; D.C. (202) 224-4822
Here’s a suggested script:
Congresswoman / Senator, thank you for vote insisting on Congressional approval for the exercise of war powers. Your vote was an important first step toward reasserting congressional authority over decisions about war and military engagement.
With the federal government’s trillion-dollar defense budget and tens of billions in new funding for ICE, it has access to more than enough money to support our troops. Our communities need investments in healthcare, education, housing, food security, and climate solutions—not ever-growing military budgets. To be quite clear: I strongly oppose any more money for this illegal war.
